Istanbul decor

istanbul

Buon lavoro!!

What catched me the most about Istanbul were the incredible decorations on Iznik tiles, as much as I started to paint four tiles in my home as well (if you follow me on Istagram you already saw the first two tiles in progress). I gueess you'll find inspiration too, so enjoy the following photos below. You got a whole weekend to play with colors! Happy work!

Istanbul photodiary: the harem

Istanbul

The most charming place in the ancient palace of the sultans - Topkapi palace in Istanbul - is undoubtedly the harem, a place that fed our imagination for centuries, without losing its evocative power.
Contrary to popular belief, the harem was not a kind of brothel, but the private area reserved for the Sultan and his family (including, of course, his wives). Here lived his mother, the sultan himself and all his women, among beautiful gardens, fountains, pools, rooms richly decorated with blue and white tiles, gold, fabulous jewels (such as the giant chandelier completely covered with diamonds that you can still admire in the treasure room), porphyry columns, white marble, mother of pearl inlaid doors and carpets with extraordinary designs. All was protected by a system of rooms guarded day and night by blacks slaves eunuchs (yes, they were cut off the genital organ ...). Here selected girls were educated to become finally wives of some officials, or of the vizier, or of a commander or - for the most beautiful of them and fortunate - wives of the sultan. In any case, if a girl entered in here, had already assured their own future. :)

Postcard from Istanbul: flavors

Istanbul

The first thing that catches you in this city is its smell. Every city has got one and here the air is full of aromas I figure as antique as the city, the same as they were with the Byzantines and the Ottomans: spices, caramel, steaming meat.
Take a tour through the spices bazaar, called Egyptian Bazaar, which is located in the Eminönü district, on the European side, just behind the New Mosque overlooking the Golden Horn and facing the Galata Bridge.
Breathe its pleasant and intense smells: saffron, turmeric, cumin, dried plums, pomegranate marmalades, nougat, caramel, blackberry teas, orange teas, roses teas, raisins, dried fruits, candied fruits, fig jam, almonds, hazelnuts, pistachios, cinnamon, turkish black tea, honey, cardamom, black pepper, red pepper, mint, paprika, curry, chili...
Here everything seems to be completely identical to an ancient time, as if time had stopped...

Postcards from Istanbul: inspiring pattern

istanbul

Just after having seen magnificent blue and turqoise patterns of the Iznik tiles covering interiors of the Topkapi buildings in Instanbul, I decided to paint my terrace's tiles with these decors as well
As long as I will be able to do that, I could decide to wear long printed pants and scarves like the Gucci's ones.

Postcards from Istanbul: blue, red and gold

Istanbul

If I had to associate this city to colors, I definitely would describe it as red, gold and blue.
Red as infinite carpets covering floors of its mosques, red as tea drunk in the characteristic amphora-shaped glasses sitting at the café in Sultanahmet Square.
Blue as Bosphorus and the magnificent decors of the Iznik tiles covering the ancient interiors of the harem.
Gold as mosaics and Koran verses decorating the domes of mosques, gold as the amazing sultans' treasures kept in the museum, that make you dream about old legends and oriental tales.
The combination of these three colors - gold, red and blue - gives me the idea of Istanbul, a stunning city between East and West I visited in the past days. Here is a photographic taste of the major turkish metropol... enjoy these postcards and stay tuned for more!

In the streets of Paris

IMG_3909

Spent a beautiful weekend in Paris, walking in the streets of Saint Germain des Près, watching windows of Pigalle, eating potatoes and duck in the brasseries of the Latin Quarter and shopping in the Marais.
Just for the occasion I bought at Zara a new coat which could keep me pretty warm: I've found it for 40 euros only, on sale!
And what about my new flowered skirt? Do you like it? It makes me feel so springish!
I've got a new job which is taking me so much time and energies (infact I disappeared on Facebook and also here) but I hope I'll edit tomorrow a list of addresses in Paris where I went so you'll can use next time you'll be there.
A huge hug to you who keep reading this blog even when I don't update it.
I love you!!

Mi fa sentire subito in primavera!

A quick journey through the pics taken in Madrid

IMG_0918
IMG_0915
IMG_0912

I've got so many thoughts and ideas, projects to work to, and the relax I wanted to plan the past weekend is over. But it's ok, even if I have to redo all my documents.
And when I'm upset, I give myself just a minute to ruminate slowly all the sensations the latest days in Madrid left me inside.
I can feel the taste of a yummy homemade paella cooked by a real Spanish mom (what a delight!); I feel soothe when I think about the widest blue sky I've ever seen (yes, wide, the sky of Madrid is incredibly wide... why?), I feel happy with those unexpected encounters you can only do when you travel alone, with the sound of their which gives you energy, with the beautiful sensation of freedom you can feel strolling the streets of an unfamiliar town, letting the city reveals you its stores and amazing sights.
The colors that come to mind when I think about Madrid are the red of meat, pepperoni and sangria; the yellow of fields and paella; the blue of sky and azulejos; the burnt brown of woolen libraries, handrails and room interiors.
Can I send you a little bit of Madrid through these pics?

YSL exhibition in Madrid

ysl

...Finally, here I am after the long series of misadventures in Madrid (if you're friends of mine on Facebook you already know I was robbed). An here it is the report from Yves Saint Laurent exhibition (on stage 'til january 2012, the 8th) organized by Mapfre Foundation and Pierre Bergé Foundation.
I begin my report with a tip: go and visit! It's worth. The collection is well-provided: 150 cloths, many videos, a setting that reproduces the designer's creative space, with his desk, his glasses and his inspirations, plus an entire floor dedicated to his sketches and tecnical specifications. To let you surrend, the entrance is free. Maybe, unlike me, you're better doing more attention to your wallet when you're in the subway. :)

Leaving for Madrid

Hi, girls!
I'm going to leave for Madrid, where I will go to see the Yves Saint Laurent exhibition and to take a dip int the most cheerful city I've ever visited.
The exhibition's entrance is free so I recommend you if you live there. Plus, as I anticipated on Facebook and on Twitter, if you're around there write me because it could be a good occasion to meet and chat!
I send you a huge kiss and I wish you a wonderful  fin de semana, and even if it's not with tortillas and movida, at least with joy and rest.
...Oh, I was forgetting to tell you I'm issued in the La Redoute Italia blog, where I appear dressed with the outfit I chose for Christmastime, do you remember?

Buongiorno ragazze!

Breakfast at Leon Blanc, Florence

002

My ideal Saturday morning: a long and relaxing breakfast, a pleasure for the stomach and for eyes in a total white bar, the Leon Blanc in Florence, where is a must taking a cappuccino with chocolate patterns on the top...
I met for the first time a virtual friend - now she's real - for a pleasant chat and to bring her in person the shoes she fell in love with a few days ago, when she saw them on my blog: I'm talking about THESE, do you remind?
Ely, you've got the honour of being the first official buyer of the Life in curl's "shop my closet"! Congratulations! ^_^
Soon will be available products for you too, who inspired and supported my initiative.
Have a nice Saturday, lovelies!
Sara

Congratulazioni! ^_^
Buon sabato a tutte!

Merry Autumn, the solution to travel

Schermata 2011-09-07 a 17.02.23

Travelling on Ryanair flights this summer, I stumbled in the engineering dilemma (well known by you too) to pack all the minimum necessary inside of just one hand luggage... Considering that 3 or 4 shoes for 6 days are the minimum and considering every pair of shoes needs its own bag we can easily conclude Ryanair is not right for us or we have to leave at home the major part of our fashion heritage. Topping the list of things to remove from our burden: the bags.
Well, I'm glad to carry a good news: there is the solution.

Segovia

fe6f832122334479b005c7a325b75d0d_7

Last day in Spain before get back home. In Segovia I discovered beautiful buildings, unique facades, a charming tale's castle and an incredibly yummy pork, which seems to be the reasons of the Sunday visits to the city by people from Madrid.
But first we got a stop in El Escorial, where is a huge palace, now a monastery (once was the head quarters of the vast Empire of Spain), second in size only to the Reggia di Caserta.

39c1a252205c4ad591bcd68b480b7fbc_7

The Rastro is a quarter where is the famous street market. Street markets are the thing I want always visit when I travel, because they have got a place's soul: there you can find locals, not tourists. You can buy what they buy and see their faces, how they speak and how they dress up in their daily life.

Toledo

Back in Italy with lots of pics and a river of emotions flowing inside... I had such wonderful travel mates, with whom I spent unforgetteble time. So I wonder to say thanks to them: Claudia and Carlos, I'm really proud to have friends like you!
I really love this opening picture: Claudia and me seem like Thelma and Louise on the road :)
For the visit in Toledo I chose an outfit I tried during my travel in Croatia (do you remember?) which I love so much. I changed just something.
Toledo is a charming medieval town not far from Madrid, whose particularity is the moresque style you can find in the facades of bricks, in the caracteristic doors which inspired the whole arabic architecture and in the flashes of colors of decorative ceramic azulejos.
Enjoy this bunch of pics and see you tomorrow with my Madrid shopping tour results ;)

Madrid, day 1

¡Hola chicas!
I'm writing from Madrid, for last days of my holidays. I'm spending here an amazing time with my friend Claudia and our anfitrión Carlos who is the perfect guide for our tours because he knows so many things about art and history of the city.
We're eating very well and laughing and sleeping so much too :)
Spanish time schedule is crazy: we wake up at 1 p.m., lunch at 6 p.m. and dinner at midnight...... I think I'm going to suffer jet lag when I get back to Italy !!! :)
This is the short visual diary of the first day. We visited Retiro Park, a relaxing place where people go and take a walk after work and in holidays. After a slow visit of the center, we got a stop and eat pancakes with ice cream and dulce de leche in a café upon a shopping center known as El corte inglés, from which an amazing sight can be seen.
See u soon with an update from Madrid!!

¡Hola chicas!
