Postcards from Istanbul: inspiring pattern

Just after having seen magnificent blue and turqoise patterns of the Iznik tiles covering interiors of the Topkapi buildings in Instanbul, I decided to paint my terrace's tiles with these decors as well. 

As long as I will be able to do that, I could decide to wear long printed pants and scarves like the Gucci's ones.

Dopo aver visto da vicino i bellissimi motivi blu e turchesi delle piastrelle Iznik, che ricoprono le mura interne dei vari edifici del palazzo Topkapi ad Istanbul, ho deciso di dipingere le piastrelle di casa mia, in terrazza, con questi decori. Sempre che l'impresa riesca, potrei anche decidere nel frattempo di vestirmi con lunghi pantaloni stampati e foulard come quelli di Gucci.

Spring glory

Spring arrives and blows away what remains about winter. The nature rises, blossoms once again, the cycle re-starts... a beautiful bright light invades my home and is reflected by white walls of my flat...

I let my hair naturally dry in the air, drink an iced lemon tea or a glass of milk with mint syrup, I have dinner on my terrace and dress up with light colors and transparent tissues.

I find natural thinking that nature is cyclical, and life is cyclical too. We spend difficult moments asking "when will end this time?" when troubles never come alone, when everything is pulling against you, when everything is an insurmountable wall, when you try so hard but anything changes and you work so hard but no results come.

But there's an end, a new beginning and the two things coincide; nature is cyclical and life never stops.

You receive your occasion, locked things suddenly start and go fast, the wind rises, you meet your love the one which makes you surrender, you got the right intuition, someone tells "thank you" and make you feel important, you win a fight after a long time, your work turns into a change... Looking back you think: "Wow,  how far I've done! I overcame many obstacles and it wasn't easy at all".

During last year I learned to wait.

Learned waiting the right moment: because there's a time for every thing and everything has to be taken as it is; we're learning even when everything seems to be sterile, we're growing up even when we feel backward, we're going to meet fortune even when everything seems to be stopped.

From now on I'll take hard times with more calm, more wisely. It's the natural order of things: they happen. 

La primavera arriva e spazza via quel che rimane dell'inverno. La natura risorge, rifiorisce, ricomincia il ciclo... una bella luce intensa invade la mia casa e si riflette nelle pareti, bianche, del mio monolocale... 

Lascio asciugare i capelli al sole, bevo un té al limone ghiacciato o un bicchiere di latte e menta, ceno in terrazza e mi vesto di colori leggeri e tessuti trasparenti.

Mi viene naturale pensare che la natura è ciclica, ed è ciclica anche la vita. Passiamo momenti difficili a chiederci "quando finirà questo periodo?", quando i guai non arrivano mai da soli, quando tutto ti rema contro, quando tutto è un muro invalicabile, quando per quanti sforzi tu faccia le cose non cambiano mai e tu fai tanta fatica ma rimani sempre fermo.

Ma c'è una fine, un nuovo inizio, e le due cose coincidono; la natura è ciclica e la vita non si arresta.

Ti viene data un'occasione, passa un treno, le cose rimaste ferme si sbloccano improvvisamente e vanno veloci, si alza il vento, incontri l'amore quello che ti fa arrendere, hai l'intuizione giusta, qualcuno ti dice grazie e ti fa sentire importante, vinci una battaglia dopo tanto tempo, dai una svolta al tuo lavoro... Ti guardi indietro e pensi: "Wow, quanta strada ho fatto! Quanti ostacoli ho superato, e non era facile!"

In quest'ultimo anno ho imparato ad aspettare. 

Ad aspettare il momento giusto: perchè c'è un tempo per tutte le cose e tutto va preso così come viene; stiamo imparando anche quando tutto ci sembra sterile, stiamo crescendo anche quando ci sembra di essere indietro, stiamo andando incontro al momento giusto anche quando tutto sembra fermo.

Da ora in poi imparerò a prendere i periodi bui con più calma, con più saggezza. E' nell'ordine naturale delle cose: succedono. Si susseguono.

Spring summer 2012 trends: pastel Fifties

A Fifties wind seems to be blown upon the most important designers' style quarters: Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dolce&Gabbana offer extremely feminine and coquettish collections, inspired to roaring american Fifties as in Prada or to bon-ton parlors of the wealthy families of the same decade as in Louis Vuitton. It doesn't matter where, what is really  important is when: we are in 50s, economy is growing, the world seems full of possibilities, there's desire to live and the world becomes tinged with pastel colors. Dolce&Gabbana sketch the same decade with their feminine ideal: a superfeminine and conforting meditteranean woman, so far from the current superskinny model of beauty.

Pastel colors, pleated dresses and skirts, cat-eye sunglasses with PVC colored frames, supersmall waist and pin up shape, retro swimsuits, rigid handbags, doctor bags and shopping bags to wear like Fifties ladies used to wear: that's the summarized trend. Let's take note of it and let's seek in low cost chains everything can do the job.

Tutto parte da un vento Fifties che sembra essere soffiato negli uffici stile delle grandi griffe internazionali della moda: Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dolce&Gabbana ci offrono collezioni estremamente femminili e civettuole, ispirate ai ruggenti anni '50 americani come nel caso di Prada o ai salottini delle famiglie benestanti dello stesso decennio come in Louis Vuitton. Poco importano le coordinate geografiche: siamo in pieni anni '50, l'economia è in crescita, il mondo appare pieno di possibilità, c'è voglia di vivere e il mondo si tinge di colori pastello. Anche Dolce&Gabbana ricalcano lo stesso decennio con il loro ideale di donna mediterranea superfemminile e rassicurante, lungi dal modello superskinny degli ultimi anni. 

Colori pastello, abitini e gonne plissettati, occhiali dalla forma a occhio di gatto, montature in PVC colorato,  bustier a vita superstretta e forme da pin up, costumi interi dalle forme retro, borse rigide a bauletto e shopper al braccio come facevano le ladies del passato: ecco il succo di questo trend. Prendiamo nota e cerchiamo nelle catene low cost tutto quanto può fare al caso nostro.

81° Pitti Immagine Uomo 2012 + PittiW part I

I should have updated in real time the exhibition, but wifi was out of service, so here it is a report about all the things I considered the most important: the exhibition is about menswear but many companies own also labels for women, so they show trends and preview for us too. Plus, since a few years there's a section in Pitti just for womenswear, that is called Pitti W, in which there's a very interesting vintage section.

Here is what I've found.

Dovevo farvi degli aggiornamenti in tempo reale dalla fiera, e avrei ben volentieri mantenuto la promessa se la connessione internet all'interno della Fortezza da Basso avesse funzionato.

A parte questo piccolo disagio, ho trovato l'81° edizione di Pitti Immagine Uomo molto interessante. Accanto alla fiera per l'uomo, dove comunque diversi marchi espongono anche anticipazioni per le loro linee da donna, da qualche anno ha preso il via un'intera sezione donna, Pitti W. Vi si trovano marchi già abbastanza affermati e designer emergenti, e una sezione molto interessante sul vintage.

Ecco quanto di più interessante ho scovato tra gli stand.

Maybe it's due to the crisis: stock exchanges go down and we keep our bags closer under the arm.

From Prada, Céline and Miu Miu, here is the new way to wear bags: embrace not only clutches anymore. Doctor bags, satchels, bowling bags such as teddy bears for little girls grew up.

Considering their price... let's keep them tightly closed!

Sarà per colpa della crisi: le Borse vanno a picco, e noi le nostre borse ce le teniamo strette sotto al braccio. Ben chiuse.

Da Prada, Céline and Miu Miu arriva il nuovo gesto di abbracciare non più solo pochette, ma anche doctor bag, cartelle e bauletti come orsetti per bambine cresciute...

E visto quello che ci costano... teniamocele strette!

My holidays are going to start finally, and I leave my styleboard covered with photos from catwalks and magazines. Here it is a sneak peek on the looks that inspired me the most now.
I guess this is the way I'll dress up next fall!

Le mie vacanze stanno per incominciare, finalmente e io lascio la mia lavagna stracolma di foto dalle passerelle e ritagli di riviste di moda. Eccovi una sbirciatina ai look che mi hanno colpito e ispirato di più fino ad ora.
Scommetto che sarà questo il modo in cui mi vestirò questo autunno!
