I dreamed a dream

I dreamed a dream two weeks ago. A midsummer night's dream.  For one year I attended a theatre acting's course and finally we had our first performance in an amazing garden in front of the municipal Library of Montemurlo, in Tuscany. All the show has been amazing and I had three roles: I was Hyppolyta, queen of Amazons, a fairy of the wood and... the costume manager.

I brought in costumes searching out old vests, First Communion dresses, cheap fabrics and some other materials in a flea market in Florence and then adjusting to make them more suitable for the comedy.

They're not professional costumes but I'm really proud of the work I've done: with a minimum cost I pulled out the best I could. What do you think about?

Ho fatto un sogno, due settimane fa. Un sogno di una notte di mezza estate. Per un anno ho frequentato un corso di recitazione teatrale e alla fine ecco il saggio che ha premiato le nostre fatiche in un suggestivo giardino antistante la Biblioteca Comunale di Montemurlo, riaperto dopo anni.

Tutto lo spettacolo - con la regia di Viviano Vannucci - è stato un successone e, a detta del pubblico, molto suggestivo e coinvolgente. Io avevo tre ruoli: quello di Ippolita, la regina delle Amazzoni, quello di una fatina del bosco e.... quello di arrangiatrice dei costumi :)

Non sono stata propriamente una costumista: ho tirato fuori un buon numero di costumi con una spesa veramente minima, scovando nel mercato delle pulci vecchi gilet jacquard, abiti da bambina da Prima Comunione, stole in velluto broccato da trasformare in gilet, tessuti economici e altro materiale che ho poi riadattato e modificato per rendere il tutto più adatto allo spettacolo.

Sono molto soddisfatta del risultato, e anche se non sono veri e propri costumi di scena professionali penso di aver fatto un buon lavoro. Voi che ne pensate?

Evening at Teatro del Sale

Who knows the Teatro del Sale in Florence? If you never been there, you have to go and spend an evening in your life.

You'll spend a wonderful evening with many of life's pleasures, like eating well, drinking good wine, enjoy the italian typical conviviality and watch an high quality theatrical performance, all this at a fixed price of 30 €.

The place is a kind of private club, where you must have a membership card to enter (you can do it at the moment).

They've got a few of funny and original rules to respect there: for exemple is a must socialize and exchange news each other, otherwise the non-renewal of the card. :)

Furniture and atmosphere put you right in Florence in fiftteenth century, and the cook calls diners from a window when plate is ready with a typical accent and urges them to self-service or yells if he sees them use a double ration of schiacciata all'olio (a kind of very tasty bread).

After dinner, the saff systems sittings in front of the stage and you can assist at the show. Yesterday there was a very brilliant monologue by an apulian actor, Ippolito Chiarello.

He had the brilliant idea to presenting the same show in the streets and sell it in pieces, each with a fixed price, from 2 to 15 euros per scene. So, you can request your favourite scene and watch the low-cost show in the street. This also represent a kind of protest against economica cuttings to the culture by the government.

The actor is on tour and you can watch his performances also in Paris and London (more info here).
